Our Approach: From Information to Action
As Health4NoVA grew, we realized that connecting people with information was only part of the work. Knowing where to find a clinic does not automatically mean knowing how to prevent illness in the first place. Having access to health information does not always mean having the supplies, education, or support needed to act on it.
So, our mission expanded.
Today, Health4NoVA bridges gaps in Northern Virginia by combining healthcare resource navigation with direct health education and hands-on community outreach. Through targeted campaigns, we bring preventive health education into classrooms and community spaces while collaborating with healthcare professionals, local businesses, and industry partners to mobilize practical resources.
Driven by Data: Understanding Where Gaps Appear
We believe that effective community outreach must be informed by evidence.
In 2025, our co-founder, William Pham, conducted a 12-month scientific research study analyzing oral health disparities at a large pediatric clinic in Northern Virginia. The project examined patterns in caries experience and treatment utilization among pediatric patients. The findings revealed stark differences in oral health outcomes based on age, race/ethnicity, and insurance status.
This research gave us a framework to understand the communities we serve. Rather than assuming every population faces identical barriers, we examine localized evidence alongside what we hear directly from families, clinics, and community partners.
This data helps us ask better questions:
How can we target our resources to the populations in deepest need?
What specific health issues are we addressing?
What socioeconomic barriers are affecting them?
What kind of intervention will realistically help?
Our research gives us a critical piece of the bigger picture. By combining evidence with real-world community experiences, we create a continuous cycle of impact:
Research ➔ Identify Gaps ➔ Design a Solution ➔ Reach Communities ➔ Measure Impact
The goal is simple: connect what we learn through data with what we do on the ground.
Impact Spotlight: The Little Smiles Project
Our Little Smiles Project put this data-driven approach into practice. We brought interactive oral health education workshops directly into preschool classrooms where access barriers were highest. By collaborating with healthcare organizations and industry contributors, we provided physical resources alongside health literacy.
Through the campaign, we:
Mobilized more than $2,000 in donated healthcare and dental supplies.
Reached more than 246 preschool students with hands-on education and hygiene resources.
The campaign reinforced our core conviction: true health access is not only about knowing where to find care, but also about having the knowledge and tools to act.
What We Do Today
Health4NoVA works across four connected areas:
Connect: Helping families find and navigate healthcare, public-assistance programs, and community resources.
Educate: Making complex health information easier to understand and bringing preventive health education directly into communities.
Equip: Mobilizing practical health supplies and educational materials that help people put health knowledge into practice.
Empower: Building health literacy and confidence so individuals and families can make informed decisions about their health.
We cannot remove every barrier to care. But we can make the next step easier to see, easier to understand, and easier to take.
That is what Health4NoVA is building.
